Why a colouring book of their own people?

Children know everyone on the page, so colouring turns into a chance to talk about them.

A page of Grandad at the allotment or the whole family on the beach comes with stories attached: who was there, what happened, why the dog is soaking wet. Children can match real colours using the colour-reference page of the original photos, or ignore it completely. Purple hair is allowed.

It is also an activity that needs no screen, no batteries and no setting up: just the book and whatever pencils, crayons or felt tips you have at home. That makes it easy to take on a visit to Grandma’s, to a café or on a long car journey.

The book at a glance

  • No price inside, posted flat in a sturdy envelope
  • £29.97 with Royal Mail Tracked 48 included; 2 copies £40, 3 copies £45 or 4 copies £50
  • Free preview of every page before you pay

Choosing a line style by age

Pick Little Hands for children who are still learning to colour inside the lines, and Detailed for confident colourers.

Little Hands: bold, simple lines (ages 3–7)

Thick outlines and big, simple shapes. A young child can finish a page in one sitting, which matters more than detail at this age.

Detailed: ages 8+ and adults

Finer lines and more of each scene: clothes, background and small things the child will recognise. Good for older children who want a page to take a while.

One style is used for the whole book. Buying for brothers and sisters of different ages? Little Hands keeps it easy for the youngest, and older children can add their own patterns and detail. See example pages in both styles.

Making it theirs

You write the cover title and the dedication yourself, so the book can carry the child’s name from the first page.

  • A cover title of your choice, such as their name or “The Patels in Colour”
  • A “This book belongs to” page with your own short dedication
  • A colouring page for each of your 8 to 20 photos
  • A colour-reference page of the original photos
  • A “Draw your own family” page for drawing anyone who is missing, or the family as the child sees it
  • A bonus “Our family tree” page when you upload an odd number of photos

Which photos to include

Put the child at the centre, surrounded by the people, animals and places they love.

  • The child doing things they enjoy: building a den, at the park, on a bike
  • Parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents and cousins
  • Pets, from the dog to the goldfish
  • Best friends, with their parents’ permission
  • Favourite places and days out: the beach, the zoo, a birthday party

Clear photos with big faces make the best pages. Our guide to choosing photos explains why.

Safe for children, and for their photos

Your photos are stored encrypted and deleted 14 days after your book is dispatched, and the pages are printed on one side so felt tips can’t ruin the next picture.

The book is stapled, so please supervise very young children, and keep scissors for a grown-up when cutting out the felt-tip guard at the back. No pencils or pens are included, so children can use the ones they love.

We treat every photo as a photo of a child. Location details are removed as soon as a photo is uploaded, photos are never made public, and they are used only to make your book and never used to train AI. Every page is checked automatically for anything unsuitable and then by a person before printing. Read our guide to keeping children’s photos safe online, or the full privacy policy.

  • Stored encrypted and never made public.
  • Used only to make your book. Never used to train AI, and no face recognition.
  • Deleted 14 days after dispatch, or sooner if you ask.

Questions parents ask

Which line style should I choose for my child’s age?

Choose Little Hands (bold, simple lines, ages 3–7) for younger children and Detailed (ages 8+ and adults) for older children. If the book is for children of different ages, Little Hands is usually the safer choice for the youngest, while older ones can add their own detail. You see every page in the preview before you pay.

Can I put my child’s name on the cover?

Yes. You write the cover title yourself, so it can be your child’s name or anything you like, such as “The Patels in Colour”. You can also add a short dedication, which is printed on the dedication page at the front.

Can brothers and sisters share one book?

Yes, one book can hold 8 to 20 photos of the whole family, so everyone can have their own pages. If each child would like a book to colour, choose more copies of the same book at checkout: 2 copies £40, 3 copies £45 or 4 copies £50, delivery included.

What age is the book suitable for?

The book suits any age that loves colouring: choose Little Hands for younger children, or Detailed for older children and adults. The book is stapled, so please supervise very young children, and keep scissors for a grown-up when cutting out the felt-tip guard.

Is it safe to upload photos of my children?

Yes. We built the service around keeping children’s photos safe: they’re stored encrypted, never shown publicly and deleted on a fixed timetable. If you don’t order, your draft is deleted after 30 days without activity. Our guide on keeping children’s photos safe online explains what to look for with any photo service.

Can we use felt tips or paints?

Yes, felt tips are fine. Every picture is printed on one side only, so ink that soaks through only reaches a blank back. For extra protection, cut out the 300gsm card guard page at the back of the book and slip it behind the page you are colouring; the dedication page at the front explains how. Paints are not recommended: the pages are paper, not watercolour card.
